Dr. Ayila Adzandeh is a Registered Surveyor with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) — a credential he has held since 2012 — and a Senior Lecturer at the African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST), Ile-Ife, established under the auspices of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). He also serves as Teaching Support Lecturer in the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) under the AFRIGIST–OAU Memorandum of Understanding. Since 2024 he has served as Coordinator of the Departments of Geodetic and Marine Science / Hydrography at AFRIGIST, having earlier served in the Institute's Planning, Budgeting and Monitoring Unit. His expertise spans remote sensing, marine geodesy, hydrography and flood risk modelling, with a particular focus on flood vulnerability, coastal wetland dynamics, land use/land cover change, climate change impacts and disaster resilience. His research integrates coastal and wetland dynamics, climate variability, terrain–hydrological characteristics, anthropogenic land-use change and household livelihood vulnerability within a single analytical framework, and he has authored over 25 papers in highly rated academic journals. In 2016 he was a Visiting Research Scholar at the Centre for Applied Environmental Research, University of Missouri–Kansas City, USA, under an African Development Bank (AfDB)-funded programme on climate resilience for coastal cities. Dr. Adzandeh is the Founder and Lead of the Hydro-climate Hazards and Wetland Resilience Lab (HHWRL). He is a member of the US-Africa Coastal Resilience Research Consortium (CRRC), the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), the Geoinformation Society of Nigeria and the Nigeria Hydrographic Society (NHS). In 2025 he was appointed a Junior Fellow of the International Centre for Climate Change, Floods and Environmental Sustainability (i3CFES) at the Federal University Lokoja, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Benue State University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Surveying and Geoinformatics, specialising in Marine Geodesy and Coastal Management, from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
